One meeting with tattoo artist Aura Jane and you might be ready to hire her as your life coach. Born in the Middle East, raised in Hong Kong and then off the UK, she made her way to New Orleans in 2009. All of these worldly travels gave her insight into many different types of people and lifestyles which come across in her calm and soothing demeanor.
Aura Jane feels that all bodies are beautiful, no matter the shape or size. She wants us all to feel comfortable in our skin. She also understands that her role as a tattoo artist can lead to being a part-time therapist at times. Aura Jane embraces that portion of it and even encourages it. She likes the connection you can make with a complete stranger over inking them for life.
You can’t peg her style down to one thing as Aura Jane is fluent in all styles. If you want to make her heart sing, then request something brightly colored. (But if you insist on knowing her specialties, they are: neotraditional, nerdy, intricate, dot work, lacework, mandala work, cover-ups, color, fantasy, watercolor, freehand amongst others! )
One of Aura Jane’s favorite sayings from a former client was that a tattoo is the best investment you can make in your life – because no one can take it away from you.
1. Tell me about what you provide.
I’m in the business of making people look more attractive than they already are. If they have an old tattoo we need to cover, I can help them get rid of this past memory that doesn’t make them feel so good. For some people getting a tattoo is a self-esteem booster, and everyone should feel good about themselves.
I do intricate line work and lots of colors.
2. How long have you been in business?
12 years in November.
3. How do people find you online?
4. What is lesser known about your business that you wish more people knew?
I don’t rush through because I will not sacrifice detail and quality. When you rush, you’re telling the person that you don’t care.
I am appointment oriented too so that I have structure and really give my people their time.
5. Give me all the lagniappe info.
Even if you’re just trying to come up with a concept, we can brainstorm it together. You should be happy to show off the tattoo that you get. Let’s talk about what you like aesthetically and we will see what we can do. This is a collaboration between you and me.
Also, I don’t mind telling people if an idea they have should stay just that – an idea. Sometimes the concept can sound great but doesn’t always translate. I can suggest alternatives for you that will work. The shape, size, and style all have to compliment your skin so that it’s a good piece of work for many years.
