In the heart of the New Orleans neighborhood Algiers Point, you can find Mark and Rosetree Blown Glass Studio & Gallery. Housed in a former movie theater, Mark has the furnace blazing even in the middle of a brutal New Orleans summer. Rosetree offers events to blow your own glass, while also selling vases, decorative pieces, pendants for lights, and drink ware. They are beyond accommodating and you can order custom pieces as well.
1. What products and services do you offer?
We make colorful blown glass that people can use in everyday life as gifts or objects to adore.
2. How long have you been in business?
I have been doing this since 1985. We have been in this building for 23 years.
3. How do people find you online?
4. What is lesser known about your business that you wish more people knew?
We make urns, cremation pieces, and awards. Those are the items that most people don’t know we make. I recently made awards for tricentennial dignitaries.
Also, I am color blind. I know the value of color though, I have a very good color sense. I know what colors should and shouldn’t go together. Reds and greens are the hardest though.
5. What’s your favorite aspect or project you’ve worked on?
My favorite aspect is that I get to make things. I have a really cool job and I get to actually create things. I make things for people’s happiness and joy. When they find that perfect piece, it’s all the better. People tell me I am lucky to do something I love, but even after all this time, I think it’s cool a job to have.
For favorite project, it’s just whatever new I am working on. The new ones are my favorite because they are challenging in a different way. Every year galleries want to see something new and exciting. I won’t show something new unless I like it too. This is like choosing a favorite child, you just can’t do it.
