  • What: Matilda’s Pass: Enslaved Women, Freedom Seeking, and Fugitivity in N.O.
  • Where: Beauregard-Keyes House, 1113 Chartres Street

  • Info/Lagniappe: Dr. Mary Mitchell explores court cases and fugitive slave advertisements to piece together a clearer picture of women who sought their freedom in the cityscape and social world of antebellum New Orleans.

Friday, September 23rd

  • What: Storming of the Sazerac
  • Where: The Roosevelt, 130 Roosevelt Way
  • Time: 1:00pm
  • Info/Lagniappe: The Roosevelt New Orleans will host the annual Storming of the Sazerac in the Blue Room. This one-of-a-kind celebration pays tribute to the empowered group of women who stormed the Sazerac Bar in 1949 demanding equality and a stiff drink. This event made the Sazerac Bar the first bar in New Orleans to allow women on days other than Mardi Gras. “Storming of the Sazerac” encompasses libations, cuisine and entertainment. Ladies are invited to dress in post-war New Orleans style, such as hats, veils, peep-toe shoes and gloves. Doors to the world famous Blue Room open at 12:45pm, and the celebration begins with the traditional ladies lunch at 1:00pm. Live entertainment will be provided, and the event will feature a fashion show showcasing vintage style with a best-dressed competition.
