Utterly Uptown

Uptown. When people hear that, they immediately assume anything from the interstate and up, heading away from downtown. (For newbies, we don’t use north, south, east & west. It’s uptown, downtown, riverside, and lakeside.) There are many, many neighborhoods along the way. The true boundaries of Uptown are from Lasalle to Magazine, then from Napoleon to Jefferson. Large sections of this neighborhood are truly residential. The outer perimeters are where most of the businesses are located. I gathered some of my favorite things from a few little sections of this fabulous parcel.

French Truck

Ok, the second I saw those rocking chairs on the porch, I knew I would be in love with this location of French Truck Coffee. This unobtrusive business fits snuggly within the residential houses. Every person coming or going was friendly and had a pleasantry.

The hot tea I chose for myself, Bella Coola, was absolutely the best tea I’ve ever had. It had a citrus flavor with a hint of hibiscus. No sweetener was even needed for this beauty.

I perused the list of toasts they had on hand and cursed myself for going low-carb – they varied from topping like ricotta, avocado, white bean, & nutella. There were other breakfast options too, like quinoa bowls and french toast.

Seating, indoor & outdoor is plentiful! Staff is beyond helpful if you’re not sure what you want.

Mike the Bike Guy

We went to go chat it up with Mike the Bike Guy to learn more about his shop. He’s been a local favorite for 10 years now offering up bike rentals, repairs, & sales. It’s easy to see why people keep coming back there, as it has a very cozy & neighborly feel to it. Mike’s personal favorite place to go riding is in Audubon Park. Also – FUN FACT! – he gives away a bike to be raffled off at his yearly neighborhood Night Out Against Crime. Don’t forget to swing by there for any of your biking needs!

Take a jaunt down St. Charles

While there are quite a few businesses to list in the Uptown neighborhood, I wanted to throw in a free option. Take a stroll down St. Charles and admire the architecture. We boast some pretty amazing homes in New Orleans, and St. Charles is one of our crown jewels.

We sometimes take for granted all this beautiful scenery around us when we look at it every day. This is your reminder to grab a snoball, or a go cup, and take it all in.
