Vibrantly Venetian Isles

The New Orleans neighborhood, Venetian Isles, gives a vibe that you’re a world away from living in an urban city. It’s 25 miles from downtown and every home overlooks the water – with most having boat docks and bulkheads too. Their homes are found on larger lots, almost all raised, and each one looks different from their neighbor. Since it’s a small community, every one knows each other. Here are a couple of local businesses that grace this area.

Vucinovich’s

Having just celebrated their 40th anniversary, Vucinovich’s is family owned and worth the drive. With old-timey decor, this popular locals destination is as old-school New Orleans diner as it gets. The Venetian Isles staple has it all from burgers, muffulettas, to seafood. They are well known for their blue plate specials. Vucinovich’s fried chicken Thursdays are a can’t miss! Located in an unassuming house off of Chef Menteur, you might drive right by and not even notice it. Make sure to take a jaunt out there and bring your appetite!

Dong Phuong Oriental Bakery

Open since 1982, Dong Phuong has been a mainstay in the Vietnamese community that settled in New Orleans East after the Vietnam War. Today, they are slinging out French bread loaves, banh mi sandwiches, sweet and savory baked goods, & some of the best king cakes New Orleans has to offer. They are a bustling bakery that fulfills all your sweet tooth needs, from the ordinary to the exotic. The adjoining dining area is heaven for sitting down and enjoying pho. You can special order a cake or pastries for special occasions too. Before running out the door, grab one of their amazing meat pies!
