Because You’re My Sweet Thang

Valentine’s Day is upon us… are you starting to sweat because yet again this year you failed to make plans? Or maybe you are feeling down because Cupid hasn’t been so kind to you.

Whatever the reason, you don’t need to stress or spend the day burning pictures of your ex – we are going to help you plan something simple and sweet to remind yourself, or that special someone, that love is all around us.

This is New Orleans, you know we are going to eat. And for Valentine’s Day, I say let’s get right to desserts – no need to spoil our appetites with a main course!

Ready to get your Dessert On?

Bakery Bar

Located in the Lower Garden District, Bakery Bar offers a full menu which is delightful. But a glass (or bottle) of something sparkly and VANILLA DOBERGE BRÛLÉE just may be the way to your sweeties heart. And don’t forget to check out the bakery case for doberge by the slice, dobites, salty balls, and more!

Creole Creamery

Can we talk about it? I am addicted, my favorite ice cream in the world.  My heart skips a bit just thinking about it! Uptown, Lakeview and even Bay St. Louis- Creole Creamery has you covered.  Offering their staple flavors, seasonal flavors even Sorbets & Sherbets can make deciding a challenge, BUT don’t worry they will let you sample until you find the one that’s just right! They also offer a variety of sweets on the menu don’t be afraid to explore! If you are up for a challenge and have a friend or two with you- try the giant sundae known as the Tchoupitoulas. Be prepared and wearing elastic waist band pants: eight scoops of ice cream and your choice of eight toppings served in grand fashion with whipped cream, sprinkles, cherries and wafers.

My pick: a Chocolate Milkshake with two straws to share with that someone special.

Not really! Everyone should get their own, for me there is no sharing in ice cream.

Angelo Brocato

A New Orleans tradition since 1905, we couldn’t leave this Mid-City institution off our list. Famous for their AH-MAZING gelato and cannoli’s, it’s love at first bite. Ever wonder what the difference between gelato and ice cream is? Gelato, Italian for ice cream, differs from American Ice Cream. Angelo Brocato gelato is produced using a custard-based mixture with less milk fat than American Ice Cream. It is also churned very slowly so it has less air, creating a dense product with a pronounced flavor. And when you order a cannoli it’s filled upon the order to preserve the crispness of the shell. Angelo Brocato’s is the kind of place you go to over and over again. I can’t wait to bring out of town visitors or new New Orleanians to encourage them to get out of the French Quarter and experience a love affair with our neighborhood spots.

Shake Sugary

Passionate and Unconventional is how this Bywater Bakery describes themselves. Are you intrigued? You should be! Shake Sugary brings to you handmade, homemade, and all natural fare. Are you a frustrated Vegan who fills left out of the sweets world? Not any more, Shake Sugary offers you options…delicious options that even your non-Vegan friends will swoon for!

Amore Bakery and Café

Hey Westbank is for Lovers too, you know! And we have you covered. Sashay on over to Amore Bakery & Café in adorable Old Gretna! The interior décor will have your heart pounding a little faster and then indulge in the wedding cake cupcake and honey bear latte with your special honey bear.  And know, you are supporting a family affair – which makes it all a little sweeter!

Happy Valentine’s Day y’all! (or Happy Anna Howard Shaw Day!)
