When I had you to myself, I didn’t want you around.

The Irish Channel has seen some changes over the years, but what has remained is the people who call this neighborhood home have enormous pride for where they dwell and everybody knows everybody here.

While today this New Orleans neighborhood is home to a wide range of people, the roots are deep in Irish ancestry and working-class. It is still home to multi-generational families along with newcomers to the city. Tucked between Magazine Street and Tchoupitoulas, bounded by Jackson and Louisiana Avenues. Don’t let the few square blocks that make up the Channel fool you – almost everything you need is a walk, bike ride, bus trip, or streetcar ride away.  Not to mention if you hop in the car you can be on the highway in a flash.

Double and single shotgun houses are plentiful here in the Irish Channel, as is the Victorian millwork and details. You will also find center-hall cottages and the American Style Townhouse. The lots tend to be narrow here and off-street parking is rare.
