Steeped in tradition, chances are if your people are from the Carrollton area, you still live there. Speaking of tradition, you will find classic New Orleans houses in this area – raised cottages, single & double shotguns, but you will also find new construction and lots of renovations. This area has seen a resurgence of life – new restaurants, bars, the Oak Street Po-Boy festival just to name a few things. But don’t worry, the landmarks are still there; we are looking at you Camellia Grill, Carrollton Streetcar Barn, and Maple Leaf Bar.

Marsalis Harmony Park is an impressive park in the neighborhood—it provides green space and a playground and even hosts an art market once a month! Don’t worry—even though there is a lot of new development in the area, you will still be charmed by the live oaks along Carrollton Avenue and the sights and sounds of the river, the railroad, and the streetcar.

Lagniappe: The Carrollton Courthouse served as the seat of government for Jefferson Parish until the City of Carrollton was annexed by New Orleans in 1874. One of New Orleans’ most noteworthy architects, Henry Howard, designed this impressive Greek Revival building.
