Is it Carrollton or is it Leonidas, maybe it’s Pigeon Town!?! It can be hard to know where one ends and the next begins, they are adjacent and blend into one another. Just know what you will find is a substantial mix of commercial and residential living in harmony.

Steeped in tradition, chances are if your people are from the Carrollton area, you still live there. Speaking of tradition, you will find classic New Orleans houses in this area – raised cottages, single & double shotguns, but you will also find new construction and lots of renovations going on. This area has seen a resurgence of life – new restaurants, bars, the Oak Street Po-Boy festival just to name a few things. But don’t worry the landmarks are also still there, we are looking at you Camellia Grill, Carrollton Streetcar Barn, and Maple Leaf Bar.

Palmer Park is an impressive park in the neighborhood – giving green space, a playground, and even hosts an art market once a month! Be sure to keep an eye out on the progress of the new campus of the French School, Lycée Francais de la Nouvelle-Orleans, which is being built in the neighborhood. Don’t worry even though there is a lot of new development in the areas, you will still be charmed by the live oaks along Carrollton Avenue and the sights & sounds of the river, the railroad, and the streetcar.

Lagniappe: The Carrollton Courthouse served as the seat of government for Jefferson Parish until the City of Carrollton was annexed by New Orleans in 1874. This impressive Greek Revival building was designed by one of New Orleans’ most noteworthy architects, Henry Howard.
