Dance all night, play all day, don’t let nothin’ get in the way.
The St. Claude neighborhood has such a rich tapestry of residents calling this area home. You will find people who lived in the same house their whole lives and newly renovated homes that were gutted down to the studs.
Originally all plantation land, it was typically known as an area for working-class families once developed. While current-day St. Claude has seen many people renovate old New Orleans homes, there are still many blighted houses peppered into the neighborhood. The commercial businesses that adorn this New Orleans ‘hood are some of the best in the city though. From some of the best dining in town to The Healing Center and the Musician’s Clinic, St. Claude is an enigma.
While housing prices have gone up, you can find many homes to purchase under $200k. Be on the lookout for cottages, shotguns, and doubles for sale.
Lagniappe: The street known as St. Claude was previously known as Good Children. (Rumor is that is was named for the section of land that Bernard de Marigny kept his illegitimate children housed.)
