New Orleans Farmer’s Markets: 2019

HELLO NEW ORLEANS! The summer heat is upon is us and this is when many of us opt for fresher, lighter fares. One of the best ways to get more greens and locally sourced food is to head to a farmer’s market.

New Orleans has farmer’s markets all over the metro area and one can be found almost every single day!

Check out where the closest one is to your home:

Gretna Farmer’s Market

Head to Old Gretna every Saturday morning from 8:30am-12:30pm for lots of goodies! It offers more than just produce at this location. Purchase jellies, baked goods, cheeses, BBQ, plants, and the list goes on.

You can find them on Huey P. Long between 3rd & 4th Street.

Metry Market at the Park

Every other Friday, you can go to Lafreniere Park for items ranging from produce to art. If you’re looking for antibiotic and hormone free chicken, beef, lamb, goat, pork, bison and fresh fish – you’ve found your spot!

Check their Facebook page and website for the next dates! This one runs till October 11, 2019.

Crescent City Farmer’s Market

Every Tuesday thru Saturday you can find the Crescent City Farmer’s Market popped up all over town. Uptown, Downtown, Old Jefferson, Bucktown, Mid-City, and Kenner are all lucky enough to have these vendors once a week.

Delicious frozen fruit bars, amazing pies, and local honey are just some of many amazing products you will find on hand.

French Market

For the folks living and working in the French Quarter, the French Market is prefect for grabbing some ripe, in season fruit and veggies. You will also find local speciality foods and the flea market is right there too!

Vietnamese Farmer’s Market

You gotta get up REEEEEEEAL early for this. It is only open on Saturday from 5:30am to 9am, located at 14401 Alcee Fortier Blvd in New Orleans East.

With plenty of vendors – be on the lookout for produce like chili, okra, lemon grass, snow peas, bananas, papaya and figs.

Word is there are Vietnamese baked good and groceries available too!

Westwego Shrimp Lot

While I have a good friend who calls this “Shrimp Town” – the Westwego Shrimp Lot offers more seafood than just shrimp. This Westbank staple has been there for decades and sells the freshest gulf seafood you can find. Open daily but you will find more vendors on the weekends.

Sankofa Fresh Stop Market

Located in the Lower 9th Ward, Sankofa offers fresh produce in an area that some would consider a food desert. The offer locally sourced produce, eggs, and seafood.

Open every Monday – Thursday from 9:30am-4pm

Old Metairie Farmer’s Market

On the third Tuesday of every month, head to Bayou Metairie Park from 3:30-7:30pm. Live music and over 30 vendors should keep everyone in the family entertained.
