An Evening in Broadmoor

Broadmoor is one of more quiet neighborhoods in New Orleans. It’s extremely residential and doesn’t have a lot of restaurants and shops. There may not be a lot of commercial businesses, but their beautiful homes are all the sights some may need. But, let me show you a few of the activities they do offer!

Let’s start off with the Broadmoor Arts & Wellness Center!

Broadmoor Arts & Wellness Center

This renovated school is nestled right into the neighborhood and offers a variety of activities. They offer counseling, early childhood & family programs, social services, and adult dance and wellness programs. I’m personally taking a hula hooping class there that is put on by Hey Now Hooping. (If you think you can’t hula hoop, the instructor Jennette, will show you otherwise.)

Right next door is the Broadmoor library where you can go to storytime with the kids, take French classes, and drop off compost on Saturdays.

After you’re done getting fit and reading books, you can take a jaunt down the Broadmoor Fine Arts & Wellness Trail that runs from Claiborne to South Broad. You are bound to see many folks walking their dogs, going for a run, or riding their bikes out there.

Once you’re done with all these outdoor activities, it’s time to head to El Pavo Real, located right at the end of the trail.

El Pavo Real, Broadmoor

This is a very unassuming restaurant, as you don’t hear much about them. People should be shouting about them from the rooftops. My dinner there was top notch. While it is very noisy, the perfect blend of tequila and lime juice can make that all melt away.

I ordered the chiles rellenos verduras (vegan friendly without the cheese!), and it was a perfect amount of rice, spice, and everything nice. Squash and pumpkin had enough crunch so it wasn’t soggy and the poblano peanut sauce was seasoned with the right amount of heat that I didn’t need any hot sauce.

I finished off with a coconut custard, that was topped with fried plantains and peanut brittle.

After all that delicious food, I left thinking that Broadmoor didn’t need any more restaurants. (I cannot speak for the residents there, I was just really digging my meal!)

Go enjoy an afternoon or evening in this part of town and see its glory all for yourself!
