Casually Carrollton

Carrollton, aka Riverbend, is one of those super chill New Orleans neighborhoods. People from the area, tend to stay in that area. Between Palmer Park, the new French school opening up, and its beautiful old oak trees, they make the Carrollton neighborhood a desirable place to live. Just be careful, as in much of New Orleans, a pothole could claim your tires. Here are some of the awesome local businesses that Carrollton gets to brag about having.

 

Breads on Oak 

 

Open for 5 years now, Breads on Oak is THE place for healthy indulgence. They have a variety of home-baked vegan breads & pastries, daily soup option, salads & vegan sandwiches. (Editor’s Note: Get the vegan banh mi!) Breads on Oak also has a smoked salmon & turkey option for sandwiches too. This Carrollton hot spot is locally owned & committed to maintaining an environmentally responsible & sustainable operation in a variety of ways – from locally sourced, organic flour to organic produce from local farms. It’s such a great spot to grab a quick lunch that residents can just walk over to. With a friendly staff and even outdoor seating, Breads on Oak can make vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters happy.

 

Symmetry

 

Family owned & in business since 1975, Symmetry is well known throughout the city, with an extremely committed clientele. Nicole Mathis, the daughter & niece of the owning partners, said they have even supplied engagement rings for multiple generations of families. Symmetry specializes in custom designs & feature approximately 25 artists at any given time. They are also technologically advanced as they create prototypes of jewelry for customers to preview before the finished product is set. They are a full service repair and restoration spot along with the ability to reset & modernize your antique jewelry. Of course, Symmetry also offers NOLA themed pendants, charms, & necklaces.

 

Strange Guitarworks

 

Located just off the hustle & bustle of Oak Street, Strange Guitarworks is essentially a workshop open Monday through Friday, while taking appointments on Saturday. Owner, Benjamin Strange, has been in this Carrollton location for 2.5 years now. Strange is well known within the music community, and has played bass for numerous local acts. Specializing in mostly guitar & bass, they also supply custom builds for professional and hobby guitar players alike. He provides repairs & those custom builds locally, and even as far as Texas & Arkansas. This is one of those amazing local shops that helps serve artists in our community.
