Lively Lower Garden District

The Lower Garden District is one of those New Orleans neighborhoods where you constantly find people out and about. Not only can you walk to a local bar or coffee shop, but Coliseum Park is a beautiful place for enjoying the outdoors. The Lafon Fountain was recently restored after many years of fundraising by the Lower Garden District Association. A mix of commercial, residential, and everyone living so close – it won’t take you long to meet a new friend. Here’s a look at some of their fabulous local businesses.

Jaci Blue

Jaci Blue has been in the Lower Garden District for 2 years now. They are a clothing boutique that specializes in women’s fashion and undergarments. Conveniently located in the vibrant shopping corridor on Magazine Street, owner Jaclyn McCabe has dedicated her shop to providing flattering and accessible styles for women sizes 12 and up. Jaclyn is all about body positivity  and aims to dress women to feel confident in their own skin. (As a client of Jaci’s, I can attest to how true this is!) Jaci Blue carries a fresh line of beautiful styles made to make women feel gorgeous. You will be made to feel like you’re a part of her family!

NOLA Mix Records

NOLA Mix Records began several years ago solely as a DJ & music production program for New Orleans’ youth. It has since evolved into one of the funkiest record stores in the city, all while maintaining their commitment to providing an avenue for kids & adults to explore the musical art forms of DJing & producing. The store features an outstanding selection of vinyl, with a heavy local influence. The shop is open to buying used records and music equipment. NOLA Mix offers private lessons, as well as providing a free monthly DJ workshop for kids ages 10-16. The shop also holds other in-store events, such as Beat Battles, live DJ events, and record release parties. Don’t miss them for Record store Day on April 21, 2018!

UP/Unique Products

UP/Unique Products is located on Magazine Street, sharing a retail space with Green Serene Clothing. Owners Heather & Mark opened their store in 1999 as a retail shop featuring handmade recycled artwork, much of which they produce themselves. As residents of the neighborhood for over 20 years, Heather & Mark have created a funky shop dedicated to upcycled & sustainable jewelry, home decor, accessories, & more. A fantastic place to find fun gifts, UP/Unique Products features many NOLA themed items, from organic tees to recycled lighting fixtures. They even have a section for kids, with is curated and stocked by their young son, Bracken. UP/Unique Products is *the* LGD spot for green themed artisan products.
