While the Fairgrounds name might indicate that it’s all about the ponies, you would be so wrong. Being so close to Bayou St. John, you will find a fair amount of their residents on bicycles. Whether they are headed to a picnic on the banks of the bayou, brunch, or to watch exotic animal races – the Fairgrounds proves to be an area full of life while maintaining its residential charm. 

While the two weeks during Jazz Fest, all the tourists might annoy others – Fairgrounds folks sell their driveway space and enjoy the music from their front yard. 

Shotgun homes and Arts & Crafts cottages dominate the architectural styles of this New Orleans neighborhood. 

Lagniappe: The Fairgrounds are the third oldest horse racing track in America. The site was also used as a Civil War campground by both sides, at different times.
