As the heat rises here in New Orleans, many homeowners wonder, “Can I install an inground pool in New Orleans?” The answer, of course, is IT DEPENDS! Let’s “dive” right into this!

Permits

In Orleans Parish, you will need a permit to install a swimming pool. Many permits are granted the same day – so long that you have your affairs in order! (Though it usually takes 2 to 5 days to be approved) Please note: if you are located in the French Quarter, the Vieux Carré Commission and the Architectural Committee. The French Quarter does not play around.

Must-Know Info

The City of New Orleans has fees associated with these permits too. The initial permit fee is $60 – but then add $5 for every $1000 of work to be performed.

If your inground pool requires plans, there is a plan review fee of $1 per $1000 of work.

There is also a 50% surcharge on the permit fee for any property located in a historic district.
