How to Make An Offer on a House

How to Make an Offer on a House

FINALLY! You found your New Orleans dream home! But…. how do you make an offer on a house?

What in the world do you do next? How do you buy this home?!

*in swoops your New Orleans real estate agent*

Your awesome New Orleans real estate agent is going to write up your offer on a Louisiana Residential Agreement to Buy or Sell.

What can I negotiate with this offer?

  • Price
  • Closing Date
  • Home Warranty
  • Closing Cost Assistance
  • Appliances
  • Length of Inspection Period

Once we have all of this in writing, you will sign to make it official. We will then send your offer to the listing agent and await their response.

Before you ask, we typically allow 24 hours for a response.

Please note:

Truly, everything is negotiable in the purchase agreement. When we make an offer on a house, we can negotiate lots of things: pool equipment, patio furniture, chandeliers, etc. As every single real estate transaction is unique, so is your offer.

What happens if they accept our offer?

Then you’re officially under contract on your New Orleans home!

What if they don’t accept my offer?

Typically, the home seller will counter your offer. What does that mean? It means the seller will respond to your offer with new terms. You do not have to accept the new terms they present, though. You can reject it outright or make another counteroffer.

If the home seller has flat-out rejected your offer, it indicates they are unwilling to negotiate in many respects. Your real estate agent will figure out what is happening and come up with a new game plan to get your dream home!
