- What: 53rd Annual Greasing of the Poles
- Where: The Royal Sonesta, 300 Bourbon St
- Time: 10:00am
- Info/Lagniappe: The Royal Sonesta originated the greasing of the building’s support poles as a practical means to deter overzealous revelers from shimmying up to the hotel’s coveted balcony space. Now considered the official kickoff of Mardi Gras weekend in the French Quarter, the Greasing of the Poles has become a time-honored carnival tradition.
