What home photos don’t tell you

what home photos don't tell you

Real estate photos should show you what the house looks like. It shows you the paint colors, the owners decorating styles, how large or small the yard is. Or we have the exact opposite situation in real estate photos –  where they only show you the exterior and you’re slightly terrified of what’s on the inside. New Orleans homes can hide a whole lot of problems that photos will never tell you about. Here’s what home photos don’t tell you.

What’s that smell?

Yeah, the photos can’t tell you if it smells like freshly baked apple pie or if the carpet makes the house reek. Smell issues can usually be dealt with. But if it’s years of animals using the carpet as a bathroom – all of that will need to removed to remedy the odor.

It’s got bad juju.

Don’t laugh. You know what I’m talking about. I’ve had clients walk in and then immediately walk out of a house because it gave them a weird feeling.

It’s got a lean.

Photos will never tell you if that house leans heavily to the right. Or the left. Or to the back.

It needs more work than you thought.

The professional photos that were taken were to make the house look like a million bucks. They aren’t going to highlight the window that’s rotting out. Be prepared for surprises.

The neighbors are awful.

The next-door neighbors have 15 cars in their yard. Or they built a shrine to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Whatever might be considered awful to you could be right next door. The photos of the house will never show you that.

At the end of the day, you can’t bank on the home photos to tell you everything you need to know. Now, let’s go make an appointment to see your next New Orleans home!
