365 New Orleans: Wicks NOLA

New Orleans candles

365 New Orleans is focused on local artists and businesses. Every single day, for one year, a new person or place will be highlighted. Follow along on Instagram: @365NewOrleans

Wicks NOLA is a New Orleans born and based handmade candle company. Owner Tiffany Brown has captured the essence of New Orleans in a jar to take wherever you go. With scents like Lemon Doberge cake, Creole Cream Cheesecake, and King Cake Baby, you will always know what city they came from.

When she first started out, there were lots of trials and error. As she researched different types of wax, she quickly found out that paraffins were not a healthy option (it’s a byproduct of petroleum) to have in the house. Wanting to only use all-natural and  cleaner wax alternatives, Tiffany now makes the candles with only soy and coconut waxes.

After putting her candles out to the world on Instagram and Facebook, it just took off! In under a year Tiffany has been able to develop lots of scents and has shipped them all over the country.

1. What is Wicks NOLA?

We are an all natural candle company. We also sell scented wax melts. There are no paraffins, dyes, or toxins. Each one is made with soy and coconut wax. All are New Orleans themed – named after landmarks, places, and food.

2. How long have you been in business?

6 months!

3. How do people find you online?

Facebook, Instagram @wicksnola504, and Etsy.

4. What is lesser known about your business that you wish more people knew?

There is so much thought and care put into everything. They are all hand poured and we do everything in our kitchen!

5. Lagniappe Info.

It’s always small batches so we can get a consistent candle.

The only local shop to pick them up is at Onyx Boutique in Destrehan.

We were just accepted to the Freret Street Market – so find us there in 2019!

The most popular scent is Voodoo Spell, it’s a very warm and sensual fragrance.

Other favorites are After the Storm – which is very fresh and clean. The next most popular is the Pontchatoula Strawberry, for obvious reasons!

All the wicks are made from cedar wood. They crackle when you burn them, it gives that fireplace vibe.

The large majority of my business comes from people who no longer live here. That want that touch of home wherever they are now.

The shop is currently on vacation until January 14 but in 2019 we have revamped our look and will be returning with all new containers for our candles and new fragrances such as Sugar Cookie Deaux and Bananas Foster. We will also be launching our new men’s candle line Monsieur by Wicks Nola which will feature woodsy, earthy scents that men prefer.
