Whitney Cato is a New Orleans dancer and seamstress. A woman of many talents, we will let her tell her story!

I started dancing at age 5. I trained with Ballet Arkansas in Little Rock. I continued my dance education at University of Oklahoma  and then performing in shows with the University including Carmina Burana. After returning to Little Rock, I then danced with the Arkansas Festival Ballet  – performing in the ballets Snow White, and Cinderella.
In 2007 is when I made my decision to head to New Orleans and audition with New Orleans ballet theater. I originally taught ballet classes along with performing with the company. I performed in the Nutcracker, Giselle, and multiple other productions. I later retired from teaching to pursue costuming. Recently I’ve taken up the role of wardrobe mistress with the company which includes designing and sewing costumes as well as handling fittings and alterations.
I first moved to New Orleans with the intent of only staying a year, but fell in love with this city and couldn’t leave. Almost 12 years later I am still here and doing what I love
