New Year, New You?: Healthy Food Options 2019

If you’re like most people of the world, you made some sort of goal or resolution for the beginning of 2019. Unlike one of the Be New Orleans team members who gave up lettuce for 2019, lots of our friends are doing Whole30 this month and others are just forgoing sugar for a bit. While New Orleans makes eating healthier super difficult (and with King Cake season about 2 seconds away…), there are options out there for those of us who need to grab lunch on the go or just looking for dinner options that won’t make you unbutton your pants at the table. Here are some of our favorite spots in New Orleans that won’t make you regret dining out.

City Greens

With locations Downtown, Elmwood, and Old Metairie you can bank on finding them not too far from you. Place your order online before arriving and get rewarded for using their app. Those are just the perks! City Greens has a great selection of salads and wraps that will make you feel like you made a good decision (food-wise!) for your day.

They are open and honest about the calorie count on their products too. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options can all be found there as well.

My current favorite: the seasonal Ahi Drizzle Salad. Seared tuna and a ponzu dressing had me sold immediately.

Green Fork

Snuggled into the Lower Garden District but with bonus locations in Metairie and Covington, Green Fork keeps your healthy habits on track from the south to the Northshore. Want a delicious and thoughtfully made entree to-go? They have it. Want to try a juice cleanse? Green Fork makes 14 different types of juices. Craving a smoothie? Don’t worry, they have you covered there too.

Even if you’re trying out the paleo diet or have been a life-long vegan – Green Fork checks all the boxes.

Our suggestion: have a healthier option at your next private event and let them cater!

Max Well New Orleans

Located in the Audubon neighborhood, Max Well even pleases the carnivores with their all vegan menu. While not all vegan restaurants are healthy, Max Well backs it up by providing calorie counts for all menu items. From fresh juices to power bowls – you’re going to find lots of fruits, veggies, nuts, and whole grains in this restaurant.

Max Well is all about filling you up without the guilt. Sides packed full of protein and wholesome salads, you won’t break any diet resolutions here.

What we love: the NOLA bowl! Red beans, seasoned brown rice, toasted pecan sweet potato, jalapeno millet muffin, cajun coleslaw, spinach, & plum vinaigrette sauce – it’s perfection!
