A filmmaker, photographer, and artist, Crista Rock has dedicated her life to celebrating the sprit and culture of New Orleans. In 2010 she founded her film production company, Crista Rock Productions to tell the stories and struggles of New Orleans and its surrounding parishes. Even before launching CRP, Crista was dedicated to telling the stories of New Orleans during her eight-year tenure as a photojournalist for WDSU. Filming during Hurricane Katrina with NBC, and then as a disaster relief photojournalist during the oil spill has only strengthened her love for the city. Crista’s work is driven by her passion for New Orleans and it shows in every frame.
She started her own business with the philosophy of working towards a greater good and telling the stories that need to be told. Going this path has proved to be a bountiful cornucopia of awesomeness for Ms. Rock.
If there is a story that absolutely must be told, you will likely find Crista Rock giving that narrative.
Editor’s Note: Crista Rock is one of the reasons 365 New Orleans was able to come into existence. Her passion for New Orleans and undying loyalty to her friends make her a natural giver. She gave me one of her own cameras so I could interview and take photos of the featured people. Crista has been a true champion and supporter of Be New Orleans and even made the amazing video we feature on the front page.
As a visual goddess and one of my very best friends, I can say without a shadow of a doubt, Crista Rock is one of the best photographers and documentary filmmakers that the world doesn’t know about yet.
1. Tell me more!
I am simply an artist. I’ve always been that way. My passion was always photography but I realized I’m a pretty decent storyteller. I would say I am a filmmaker, photojournalist, painter, and photographer.
2. How long have you been in business?
3. How do people find you online?
4. What is lesser known about your business that you wish more people knew?
None of my decisions are based on money. I work with people for specific reasons or for a purpose. I feel like it needs to be for the greater good.
5. Lagniappe Info.
These are a few of the folks I am currently shooting for that I think deserve some hype for being awesome, the Helis Foundation, the Downtown Development District, & The Split Second Foundation. Oh also I’d like to promote that I’ll be on a panel for the Emerge Summit on July 26th.
Lastly and most importantly … Love always wins.
Check out Crista’s amazing work on her website.
