Meticulous is the word I would use for Piety and Desire Chocolate’s owner, Christopher Nobles. They like to make everything in house – including their own king cake dough.

Chris describes the shop as “bean to bar to bonbon and beyond!”

How far does he take this slogan? They roast all the cocoa themselves. After roasting, they are winnowed – this is when they separate the shell from the cocoa nibs. After that is the grinding and refining, then conching, followed by tempering, to the final result of enjoying.

Piety and Desire has not only decadent flavors, but they are mini pieces of art.

Editor’s Note: Get there before February 14th for the Valentines special – it’s a chocolate anatomical heart made of chocolate with bonbons on the interior.



1. What products and services do you offer? 

We are curators of cocoa with character! We directly source quality cocoa and turn it into dark, milk, and white chocolates along with bonbons and king cakes.


2. How long have you been in business? 

We opened for retail in November 2017. Wholesale and catering was offered before that.

The quality of our ingredients and our passion for the work.


5. Lagniappe Info. 

Vegan chocolates are available – we even use raw Louisiana sugar to make them.

I am a 5th generation New Orleanian with lots of food ties. My great great grandfather moved here with a clove of garlic in his pocket and opened a store where the R Bar is now located. My other grandfather worked for Hubig’s, before they were known for the hand pies. And my aunt owns Ambrosia Bakery in Baton Rouge. If you make it there, she is well known for the strawberry cake.

I studied under a chocolate maker in Italy.

All of the products have puns in the name – take a closer look at them.

One of our most popular items is the cheese chocolate bar. We replaced the milk with brie and it’s our dark chocolate cheese bar.

We source from Nicaragua, Peru, Vietnam, and Tanzania.
