Kelder & Ken Jones recently opened up Whiskey & Sticks in the 7th Ward of New Orleans. It’s a gorgeous bar with plenty of whiskeys on display. They have tried every single one – and they stand behind their selection. Whiskey & Sticks is very deliberate with their cocktail choices as well. You won’t find a Ramos Gin Fizz here, but you can get a French 75.
All of their whiskeys will rotate, and they even carry Japanese whiskey. Kelder & Ken are going to offer tastings so that you can learn more about whiskey and come along for the ride.
1. What kind of bar is this?
We are a whiskey bar, that happens to sell cigars. Whiskey is the star of the show. It definitely has a speakeasy feel to it.
The bar is reminiscent of Cheers. In the sense that it’s like being in someone’s living room. It’s a good feeling type of place.
2. How long have you been in business?
We opened on August 1st.
3. How do people find you online?
4. What is lesser known about your business that you wish more people knew?
That we offer memberships. With your membership, you get an owner’s choice cigar and pour once a month. There will be events that are exclusive to members. We are also installing lockers. Only members will have access to those.
We are installing a Foundation room type key system. Members will be able to access the bar anytime when it’s open. Others will have to be buzzed in.
5. What’s your favorite aspect of this whole thing so far? And what is your favorite whiskey?
Being a part of the family on this block is my favorite. Every business on this block (except for Uber) is minority owned. We all help each other.
My favorite whiskey was the Hibiki whiskey. Now that it’s sold out everywhere and we can’t get it, it’s the Balvenie.
Go visit Whiskey and Sticks at 2513 Bayou Rd., in the 7th Ward.
