365 New Orleans: Mitzi Wear

Melissa Wickram grew up in Richmond, VA with her amazing mother. Then in October of 2014 she passed away very suddenly. She vowed to herself to carry on her legacy and love of life!

Melissa pursued her dreams, packed up all of her stuff, and moved to the city she always wanted to call home – New Orleans! After some adjustment period she chased her next two dreams, to help others through social work and start her own jewelry line.

Melissa is now currently in school working towards the first goal and is working hard on the second. Mitzi was her mother’s nickname in High School – thus where the jewelry lines name was born.

All of her pieces honor her mother in some way, from the momma bird flying towards the nest to a pair of glittery crawfish earrings that she would have rocked while grabbing a drink with friends. Each piece is unique and inspired by her love.

1. What products and services do you offer?

Handmade jewelry. I can customize each piece to the customers liking such as the amount of eggs in the birds nest. I also make custom pieces going off of the customers interests. From a kids necklace because the child loves birds or a bracelet for a man that wants to represent New Orleans!

2. How long have you been in business?

I have been repairing and making jewelry for 13 years but started my online business 1 year ago.

3. How do people find you online?

https://www.etsy.com/shop/MitziWearByMelissa, Facebook, and Instagram @mitziwear

4. What is lesser known about your business that you wish more people knew?

That it can also be found in two stores here in New Orleans, Feet First on Magazine Street and Glitter Box in the French Quarter. But it is my goal to have my pieces in other stores locally as well as outside of the city!

5. Lagniappe Info.

Mitzi Wear is a dream I have had for a very very long time but because of anxiety and a host of other issues I was held back. To be able to share what I love and create new pieces that make people smile and express themselves makes me beyond happy. I want to help people through what I create as well as through social work! I want to give back to the greatest city in the whole wide world!!!
